Where to list uncategorized formats

I can see that the idea was that miscellaneous formats would be listed either on the Text-based data page, or this "Binary Data" page. But I don't think that has worked out very well. It's not obvious that that's where miscellaneous formats go. And some formats can't be clearly categorized as either text or binary. And I think that, in general, formats should be categorized based on what they do at a high level, not on what they look like under a microscope.

I propose to delete this page, and create new "Miscellaneous formats" and "Elements of file formats" pages. Or maybe this page stays, but mostly just has links to other pages.

The Text-based data page probably needs to stay around for now, though maybe its purpose should be redefined. Jsummers (talk) 18:43, 10 November 2015 (UTC)
