SGI volume image (correct terminology unknown) is a low-level disk format used with SGI/IRIX computers. It is used on hard disks and CD-ROMs, and associated image files.

It can be thought of as a header, or as a container for one or more filesystems or other partitions. Often, it contains an EFS filesystem.

(TODO: Do some CDs hybridize this format with ISO 9660?)

Identification

The disk or image file starts with signature bytes 0b e5 a9 41.
