PBF (Portable Bitmap Format) was a prototype for the image format that became PNG. It was presumably never used for anything, but we document it because it appears in some lists of file formats, and to distinguish it from other formats with similar names. In particular, it should not be confused with PBM.

Some or all PBF files begin with the ASCII signature ".PBF".
