A Free Hero Mesh puzzle set consists of four files; this article is about the .level file, which contains the levels.
This file is a Hamster archive which contains the following lumps:
- *.LVL: These are named by a zero-based level number, and each lump contains the data for one level.
- CLASS.DEF: Associates class names and message names with numbers; those numbers are then used in the .LVL lumps to refer to them.
- LEVEL.IDX: Specifies the order of the levels. (The order is usually the same as the order of the level numbers, but it can be different.)
- DIVISION.IDX: Not always present. If it is present, then the levels can be placed in different divisions, and when the list of levels is displayed, you can display them by divisions. This lump contains the list of divisions with their titles and the number of the first level in each division.
