Dolby TrueHD is a proprietary lossless audio codec developed by Dolby Laboratories for use in multimedia, particularly high-definition formats such as Blu-ray (for which it is an optional format) and HD-DVD. It is designed to support up to 16 discrete channels, although according to the official page currently supports 8 channels at 96kHz/24-bit or 6 at 192kHz / 24-bit audio. As well as the audio data, TrueHD streams can also carry metadata. It uses the proprietary Meridian Lossless Packing algorithm for compression.
