[edit] Overview

The disk formats used by Akai S-series samplers. Disks contain both programs (i.e. instrument configurations) and samples (i.e. waveform data).

Multiple generations of the format exist:

  • S900/S950 (12-bit samples)
  • S1000/S1100/S01 (16-bit samples)
  • S2000/S3000/S3200

Later Akai S-series samplers use MS-DOS formatted disks. Akai S5000/S6000 uses the WAV format as default but can also read samples produced by earlier samplers. Akai MPC2000 stores samples in SND format.
