Raku is a programming language derived from Perl, originally under development as Perl 6, but later renamed. It was in development for quite a few years, with the first official release (6.c) coming out in 2015 as Perl 6, then the renaming to Raku taking place in 2019. It was decided to give the language a different name since the syntax is not compatible with the older Perl.
