Libra is a cryptocurrency initiated in 2019 by Facebook. While many cryptocurrency projects are initiated for the purpose of having a decentralized currency without a central authority, this one is designed to be under the control of its own proprietary platform. It is backed by an asset fund in order to attempt to stabilize its value to be a medium of exchange rather than speculation. The Rust programming language was used in developing it. Its symbol is the Unicode character of three wavy lines: ≋ (U+224B: TRIPLE TILDE).
