CP256 (IBM Code Page 256, EBCDIC 256) is a character encoding for the EBCDIC character set with some extended characters in an 8-bit range, designed for some European markets. It was later updated as CP500. It is similar in repertoire to ISO-8859-1 (Latin-1) but lacks a few of its characters.
