The Olympus Dot code is a bar code system using dots, in a different manner than Dot Code A. It was developed in Japan by the Olympus company, receiving US Patent 5,936,228. It was then licensed to Nintendo, which used it in a series of machine-readable cards connected with games such as Pokémon, to be read by the Nintendo e-Reader, an accessory for Nintendo consoles.
