[edit] Format details

The viewer part of a GIFEXE EXE file is compressed with LZEXE. The overlay segment (refer to MS-DOS EXE#Special file positions) contains the original GIF file, followed by a trailer.

[edit] Identification

Files made by v1.0, v1.2, or v2.0 end with ASCII "GIFEXE".

Files made by v3.0-4.5 end with these 8 bytes: ASCII "GIFEXE3", then byte 0x00.
