Pegasus is a piece of spyware created by the Israeli company NSO Group, which was discovered in 2016 and became a major news item in 2021. It had managed to get installed onto many people's smartphones, including some prominent people. It inserts itself into the activities of the phone's user such as phone calls and app activity and gets access to much personal information which it then transmits to a remote site. It also takes action to conceal itself, including deleting itself if it is unable to contact the remote server.
