MTV Video (.AMV) is one of a pair of related video file formats that go by a virtually identical set of names. The formats are associated with some Chinese portable video/music players. This article covers the one whose file extension is usually .AMV, and which begins with a "RIFF" signature. For the other one, see MTV Movie (.MTV).

Format details
.AMV is kind of like a cheap knock-off of AVI. It looks like it uses RIFF, but it is not valid RIFF.
Identification
.AMV files start with ASCII "RIFF", have "AMV " at offset 8, and (usually?) bytes 00 00 00 00 at offset 4.
