Yamaha developed the Disklavier reproducing piano to North America in 1987. At the time recordings and playback was via 3.5 2DD floppy disks.[1]

Format Information
Disklavier recorded and played back in the E-Seq format[2] which pre-dated MIDI. Disks often contained a form of DRM which made copying the disk difficult.[3]
File Information
FIL files have a header which includes the ascii COM-ESEQ.
