X, or .x format, is the native compressed archive file format of the X1 archiver software.
X1 was developed by Stig Valentini, and distributed as freeware. There were releases for several different OSes. It has native support for a number of other archive formats, including ZIP, LHA, ARJ, Zoo, and HA.
[edit] Identification
X format files are observed to begin with ASCII "X1". According to IDArc, they can also begin with "XhDr".
