CODEC (COmpressor DECompressor) is a software product developed by Telvox, an Italian company. Its main features seem to be compression and encryption. This article is mainly about its native compressed (or optionally uncompressed) archive format.
[edit] Identifiers
It does not seem to have a default file extension. A comment in the File command's database may suggest .dqt, but that looks like an error caused by mistranslating IDArc's logic.
Some third parties have abbreviated CODEC as "CDC".
[edit] Identification
Files seem to start with 0x76 0xff
.
According to IDArc, this sequence could appear at offset 0 or 4, and is followed by a byte whose value is between 0x20 and 0x3f, inclusive.
Note that this format can easily be mistaken for Squeeze. There does not seem to be an easy way to distinguish them.
