PUID stands for PRONOM Unique Identifier
The PRONOM Persistent Unique Identifier (PUID) is an extensible scheme for providing persistent, unique and unambiguous identifiers for records in the PRONOM registry. The assignment of new PUIDs is managed by The National Archives (UK).
