Portable Web Publications is a specification under development via W3C in order to present electronic publications in a manner which can be used both online and offline, with all necessary parts of a document encapsulated in one unit, but done in an open-standard manner rather than a proprietary format. This would be used in contexts where PDF might otherwise be used to encapsulate an entire document in one file, but it is desired that the content be suitable for more flexible variation of presentation as HTML does.
