It was included with [[MS-DOS]] v6.0-6.2 as DoubleSpace, dropped from v6.21, then added back (with some changes) to v6.22 as DriveSpace. It is also integrated into some versions of Windows.

It is derived from [[DoubleDisk]] by Vertisoft Systems.

The compressed volume is in the form of a file hosted on a non-compressed hard disk. Possible names for the file include DBLSPACE.001 and DRVSPACE.001.
