* '''NWD''' files store all the information of an NWF file, as well as the geometry of the model; it makes a self-contained file which doesn't require other files. Only licensed users can create these.

* '''NWC''' files are created by import/output features, and use cached geometries in a form that can be loaded quickly. It is not a format you can save to.
