Z/Install and Z/Install Lite are installation applications for DOS, developed by SpeedSOFT Development. Z/Install Lite, a.k.a. ZI/Lite, is a stripped-down version of Z/Install.

They have some associated formats:

  • A non-executable compressed ZPack archive format (.ZPK).
  • A self-extracting EXE form of ZPack format.
  • The main installer EXE format.

The executable formats seem to have ZPack formatted data embedded in them.

Some editions of the software include an independent ZPack or ZPack Lite utility to manage ZPack format. The ZPack utility supports creating self-extracting archives, while ZPack Lite does not.

Identification

ZPK files apparently start with bytes 01 5a 50 4b 01.
