I looked over the article, and it seems that what you describe as "clones of FastTracker modules" are, in fact, actually MOD modules (i.e. SoundTracker). All modules with "M.K." at position 1080, for example, are standard 4 channel SoundTracker modules. So the FastTracker format is actually just one of many variants of the MOD SoundTracker format (this is also supported from the file you referenced, which states that FastTracker is simply a MOD with 6CHN or 8CHN instead of the normal M.K. signature).
