Scalable Vector Graphics (SVG) is an XML based method for storing vector images.

The specification is open and there is a working group.

The following is an example of a simple svg file:

 <svg xmlns="http://www.w3.org/2000/svg" version="1.1">
   <circle cx="100" cy="50" r="40" stroke="black" stroke-width="2" fill="red" />
 </svg>

Identifiers

  • File extension: .SVG
  • MIME type (Internet media type): image/svg+xml
