File Format
Name ROM and memory images
Ontology

{{{caption}}}

ROM and memory images are files duplicating the content and format of data on various forms of read-only-memory hardware. These are particularly used for preserving classic video games originally released in cartridge form, so that they can be stored on modern computers, downloaded through the Internet, and run using emulation software.

See Disk Image Formats for images of disks and tapes, and Read Only Memory and Game cartridges for the physical media these are images of.
