PIC is a raster graphics format that was used mainly in Japan. It was apparently developed by the same "Yanagisawa" person who developed Pi and PIC2.

Editors' notes

This article is meant to be about the format implemented by the xvpic.c XV extension, whatever its correct name, file extension, and developer might be.

Wikipedia:Comparison of graphics file formats says it was developed by Yanagisawa, but lacks a citation.

Some file format lists include a format named Japan PIC or Japan Picture, with file extension .JPC. We don't know if that is the same format as this one.
