There are variants of ODS created by different software applications.

For example Microsoft Office 2007 SP2 creates ODS files differently to the open source spreadsheet programs. As a result such files need to be treated differently and therefore identified separately from other .ODS files.

This page describes ODS files as created by the open source spreadsheet programs such as LibreOffice and OpenOffice.org.
