Nest is a line of programmable thermostats, and other home-automation products such as smoke alarms, produced by the company Nest Labs, acquired by Google in 2014. These products are known for their self-learning ability, where they figure out their owners' habits over time and learn to anticipate their activities, such as by turning the temperature up and down at the times they are likely to want it based on past choices. Now that they are owned by Google, there is much speculation about their adding such activity logging to Google's massive database to be used by marketers, though the current privacy policy would forbid it.
