ITF-14 is an application of the Interleaved 2 of 5 bar code symbology for the use of expressing the 14-digit Global Trade Item Number. It is generally used on cases containing multiple retail packages of a product to track them in the supply chain.
An ITF-14 code is surrounded by a thick black border for several reasons including equalizing printing pressure and assisting in code reading by preventing mis-scans caused by the scanner leaving the area of the code.
