iMovie was consumer video editing software developed by Apple for the MacOS[1]. Also called iMovie HD or included in the iLife software bundle.

File Information

  • iMovie 1-4 managed video projects using a folder of the video assets[2].
  • iMovie HD (5-6) managed video projects using the Apple Bundle folder package, which appears to the user as a single file with the .iMovieProj extension.
  • iMovie 7-9 use a Apple Bundle folder package with the .rcproject extension, but stores original media in a separate "Events" folder[3]
  • iMovie 10 uses a single "iMovie Library" Bundle with the .imovielibrary extension containing all media and project info.
