AIML (Artificial Intelligence Markup Language) is an XML-based format designed for representing sets of data driving the operations of a simulated "intelligence" of the Eliza variety; in other words, able to carry on conversations with a user by recognizing patterns and making canned responses, possibly with inserted variables based on things it has learned from the user already.
