The way it works is unusual, and somewhat crude.

To create or execute a compressed file, PKZIP (see [[ZIP]]) must be available (in your current directory, or your search path).

By way of example, assume you compress a file named "TEST.EXE". PAKEXE replaces it with two files:

# A new "TEST.EXE" file, which is just a copy of the "$$PAKEXE.EXE" file from the distribution.
# A file named "$TEST.ZIP", which is a ZIP archive of the original file.

Undetermined. Copies of the "$$PAKEXE.EXE" file could be identified in any number of ways. But the file is compressed with [[WWPACK]], and may not have any nice plaintext signatures.
