It is a member of the family of [[MS-DOS encodings]] intended for use with the Turkish language. The lower half is the same as [[CP437]] (and [[ASCII]]), and the upper half has accented (and other diacritically-marked) letters and a few other things such as box drawing characters (not as many of them as some of the other encodings since more code positions are devoted to variant letters). This encoding has the characters of [[ISO 8859-9]], though in different code positions from that encoding.
