An '''automotive black box''', or event data recorder, is a device which has become increasingly prevalent in automobiles and may soon be mandated by the government. It records an even larger amount of data than the [[on-board diagnostics]] devices; while the latter simply check for possible malfunctions in the machinery of the car, the former also track things such as how fast the driver was going. The information tracked by these devices can be useful in pinpointing the cause of a car crash, and may also become an issue in civil or criminal cases pertaining to a driver's activity. Privacy concerns have been raised about them.<br />
